An hour long musical version of Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved classical tale of the Chinese Emperor and his wonderful nightingale . . . a large cast of hand-crafted rod puppets bring it to life on three stages, with tuneful songs and gorgeous costumes, sets and lighting.

See the garden of singing flowers, the Japanese dancing girls, the crocodile wrestler and the figure of Death, who brings before the Emperor his good and evil deeds.

A WORD ABOUT FRED ARNOLD:

Fred and his friends from "Odie's Magic Carpet".  
Known throughout the area for his expertise in puppetry, Arnold received B.A. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of Chattanooga .  From 1959 to 1973, he produced the Plum Nelly Puppets and also during this time, The Cadek Marionette Theatre.  His puppets have been featured in the Puppetry Journal, and have appeared on commercial educational television.  They have also been displayed at the Smithsonian Institution, the Atlanta Puppetry Guild, the Chattanooga Discovery Museum and the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Bicentennial Library.  He has designed and built over 250 puppets for the Playhouse.
